City Tour

This tour immerses you in the rich Costa Rican culture and history by taking you to and through experiencing the beautiful museums and historical sites of the capital (San Jose). It begins with an orientation and drive through San José’s beautiful Sabana Park. Next, we will take a walking tour to the historic National Theater a master piece of art and architecture, which was completed in 1897. Afterwards we will visit one of the many unique museums of Costa Rica. We’ll continue by heading to the University of Costa Rica, the Supreme Court and various sites of interest. A brief stop will be made in Moravia will allow you to browse through the beautiful craft shops located in this area, before returning to your hotel.

Lunch at “El Pueblo – Lukas Restaurant”. You will be welcomed with a cocktail. For lunch you can order the exquisite and traditional Costa Rican dish:the “Casado”. It includes rice, beans, chicken, beef or fish, fried plantain, avocado, fried egg and potato “picadillo”.

All this plus a soda, dessert, and salad.

• IF arrival of the group is on a Thursday or a Friday, the group will be taking a tour to beautiful “Pueblo Antiguo” (“Old Town”), where you can discover Costa Rica’s past in just one night. It’s a show of the celebrations of the last century. Music, dances, theatre and a delicious dinner await you. Departure is at 17:00 from your hotel.

Transfer to your hotel is at 21:00 – 21:30

• IF arrival of group is on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, the group will be taking a tour to the INBio Park, a 5 acre natural area with a naturalist guide who will explain the 4 main forests hosted in Costa Rica.

Departure is at 14:30 from your hotel.

Pick – up at 17:00  - 17:30. Transfer to your hotel. Dinner at Lukas, Papa Pez or at Hotel Villa Tournón

Day 3

Departure to the Irazú Volcano – Lankester – Orosí Valley tour.

The trip begins by ascending the breathtaking summit of the Irazu Volcano for a view of the massive crater. On a clear day you can actually see both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. After an exciting tour of the volcano, we will descend to the historical city of Cartago. Here we will visit the mysterious ancient ruins of the Old Parish and view the beautiful Basilica or our “Virgen de los Angeles”, which features rich displays of carvings and statues. We will then visit the Lankester Gardens and head to Orosí Valley.

We'll have lunch at “La Casona del Cafetal”, a beautiful restaurant with view of the Cachí Lake. Delicious food and friendly service.

Pick – up for transfer to ALL INCLUSIVE Hotel Barceló Playa Tambor where, besides having all meals and drinks included, you can surf, scuba dive, windsurf, play beach volleyball, swim in several swimming pools, exercise in the gymnasium, and, during the night attend several shows or play at the casino.

You can participate in all the activities of the ALL INCLUSIVE Hotel Barceló Playa Tambor.

Transfer to Monteverde to the ALL INCLUSIVE “Hotel El Establo”. Welcome lunch at noon. This hotel is in the heart of the tourist zone of Monteverde – 7 km. from the Santa Elena Rain Forest and 4 km from the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Traditional Quaker friendship awaits you at the hotel, which is set on a private 150 acre farm (50% protected primary forest) adjacent to the Monteverde Reserve. The Monteverde Cloud Forest is world famous for its abundant flora and fauna, where six different ecological systems converge. With a short walk you can admire the forest.

You will have the afternoon off.

Morning Tour Options: you can choose one of the following tours:

1. Sky Trek * 2hours. Starts at 09:30

2. Monteverde Cloud Forest Tour or

3. Santa Elena Rain Forest

4. 3 - hour Horse Tour with a guide

Sky Trek is a system of three platforms hanging above the ground in the midst of tree boughs. Transversal cables joining one platform to another will allow you to slide with the use of special equipment. A suspended bridge 90 meters (300 feet) long and 20 meters (66 feet) high, will give you the best view of the inner forest. The group will be guided by a naturalist and a safe team that will look out for your security every step of your journey through the tree tops of the rain forest.

** The bus you will be using will transfer the group at the same time to the different sites. Each group is responsible for finishing the chosen tour and being at the pick-up point at the pick-up point at the time scheduled by the guide and driver.

* Skywalk is a complex of suspended bridges, platforms and paths, built within the Cloud Forest of Monteverde. These allow the observation of flora and fauna from ground level all the way to the top of the trees at 3,280 feet.
